Meet the DA Team

Carrie Plew and Caitlyn Schrader join forces as Dance Assembly NC!

As professional dance artists and educators living and working in Greensboro, NC, they met two years ago when they were both Artists-in-Residence through the North Carolina Dance Festival. Quickly, they realized they shared a mutual synergy and exciting vision for the professional dance communities of NC.

Introducing Dance Assembly's

Class Series: Road Trip Edition!

This fall, as an off-shoot to our Class Series programming we are launching a Road Trip Edition that provides workshop-length classes in cities that are outside our home-base in Greensboro.

In this traveling series, we will bring a Guest Instructor from one part of the state to another city across NC. The classes in this traveling series will be three-hour workshops, longer than our regular technique class length, in which instructors and dancers can explore specific points of curiosity more deeply than in a traditional technique class.

All Road Trip Edition workshops are offered at a sliding scale of $20-$40

Here’s What the NC Dance Communities Are Saying About Dance Assembly!

  • “Teaching for Dance Assembly North Carolina was a joy — an intimate class in a beautiful space, filled with committed, curious movers ready to sweat and explore. North Carolina has so many incredible dance artists and opportunities, and I’m hopeful that DANC will become the connective tissue that brings us all together.”

    Alex Lieberman (Charlotte)

  • “Dance Assembly serves as a welcoming meeting ground for professional dancers to connect, amplify each other's knowledge, and share resources. The co-founders, Caitlyn Schrader and Carrie Plew, through thoughtful curation, marketing, and communication, are fostering a Dance Assembly community that bridges the dance ecology across North Carolina. It was a pleasure to dance and teach in their opening series, and I'm counting on more to come!”

    Janice Lancaster (Winston-Salem)

  • “I was delighted to participate in the first series by the feisty new organization - Dance Assembly. The class was, indeed, just that- a terrific group of students and teachers who were eager to explore and move together and create an expanded sense of sharing and community. I give them my whole-hearted support, and hope to continue working with them as they grow and develop their organization.”

    Gerri Houlihan (Durham)

  • “Dance Assembly classes connect me to the professional dance community in North Carolina and inspire me to keep growing. It is pretty remarkable to see the work of so many seasoned artists in one space and I look forward to more classes soon!”

    Courtney Liu (Elon)

  • “My experience with Dance Assembly was wonderful and refreshing. Immediately I felt accepted and appreciated. Everyone was open to the unknown. My instruction methods are about exploration, investigation, trust, and rigorous practice of the unknown…a lot of listening and liberation was present. Very grateful! It was a wonderful experience because when I learn from the participants I feel free to discover.”

    Amanda K. Mller (Chapel Hill)

  • “Dance Assembly has created a welcoming space for dancers to meet, move, research, and explore. I loved teaching this brave group of artists and the space is untraditionally lovely! I look forward to taking classes from other North Carolina dance artists with Dance Assembly.”

    Audrey Baran (Charlotte)

  • “Dance Assembly has given me the opportunity to connect with professional artists across North Carolina who I may not have crossed paths with otherwise. At a time when opportunities for advanced training can feel limited, it has provided a space to continue growing, learning, and moving alongside like-minded peers. Dance Assembly truly uplifts and strengthens the professional dance community in our state.”

    -Angela Ciarochi (Burlington)

  • “Dance Assembly NC pioneered a Class Series to provide high-quality, accessible, and affordable dance classes to dance professionals. Just what this area needs! The classes provided the perfect atmosphere for creating connections among professionals to practice our craft in the community. I met new dance artists and reunited with former ones while attending classes that fed my artistic soul. Thank you Dance Assembly for your seemingly effortless organization. I cannot wait to hear who you have lined up to teach next!”

    Margaret Moncure (Winston-Salem)

  • “Dance Assembly’s Class Series has not only provided a wide range of contemporary dance classes but has nourished the dance community in Greensboro, allowing for space to connect, feel, and play. The richness that comes from this Class Series has filled my soul cup in more ways than one.”

    Savannah Jenkins (Greensboro)

  • “Thank you, Dance Assembly, for the lovely experience you curated with Amanda K Miller! Although I’ve taken her class before, it’s been years since I’ve been under her wing. It was like an entirely new experience which allowed me to dive deeper into my somatic practice along with expanding my facility as a versatile mover. I love your mission and hope you all continue to raise the bar in the community.”

    Dom-Sebastian (Greensboro)

  • “My experience was a memorable one that reignited my passion for movement. I've felt somewhat estranged from dance lately due to my work commitments and other projects that don't involve professional dance. Dance Assembly provided a wonderful reintroduction to it! Thank you Dance Assembly, for all that you all are doing to create space for dance to thrive here in the county/ state.”

    Rashod Wells (Greensboro)
